I can't answer personally, as I don't produce hogs. But in my experience in banking and consulting I've seen this whole H1N1 media debacle dash the hopes of several hog farmers. Just before the "pandemic" made the news, we were hoping to see $90 hogs by June. Now, in the aftermath, it's more like the entire hog is going for $90. This is especially hard on those who didn't see the bottom dropping out of corn and locked in high prices.

I agree. Before this outbreak scare the hog industry wasn't doing too bad. But now, I feel they don't stand a chance because, even though the name has been changed from "Swine" to "H1N1," people are still going to view it as swine. They are still calling it that and fear that the virus came from hogs.

Egypt killed almost all their hogs when they found out of the outbreak...I can't image what this is doing to them. I know they don't really have a hog industry market like the US, but I would think it's hurting the livestock farmers.

Default How could I contract Swine Flu from pigs/hogs?

As Catatonia answered; Contact with pigs will not give you swine flu. Swine flu is passed from person to person just like any other flu. Wash your hand regularly and try and prevent contact with anyone who has the flu.

Whats important is that if you havent been directly affected by catching swine flu or from climate change by living some place like the Maldeves then its obviously not really happening.

Tamiflu is an antiviral drug to treat swine flu. The vaccination is to prevent you from getting the swine flu. I know though that tamiflu is being used to "prevent" people from getting swine flu if theyre going to places where it is prevalent.

The swine flu is already in all pigs and it was caused by a mutation in which the flu got into the human system so i gess the answer to your question would be no because all pigs already have the swine flu inside of them.
